The surrounding area

of Caithness has much to offer the tourist and locals alike. Being in close proximity to nature reserves, walks and riding establishments, the hotel offers ideal accommodation for active visitors. The hotel is situated about 1/4 of a mile away from Dunnet Bay which
is one of Scotland's finest surfing beaches.

Things to see and do -

A huge variety of wild life can be found nearby. Grey Seals, Puffins, Pilot Whales, Rissos Dolphins, Otters and Peregrine Falcons are just a few.
Dunnet Head at the end of the beach is the most northerly part of Scotland.

Diving - some of the finest dives in the UK are found in this area.

Walking - There are some excellent walks available from the hotel, the flag stone trail starts in Castletown. Here is a large list of walks in our area.

Climbing in Caithness can be done at Latheron-wheel, Mid Clyth, Occumster, Sarlet and a few other places. Most are found in the SMC guide to Northern highlands

Kayaking has been a popular pastime in Caithness for many years. In 1984 the Pentland Canoe Club was formed to serve individuals living around Thurso. Their main areas are White Water Kayaking, Sea Touring, and Kayak Surfing. The Caithness Club at Wick provides Kayaking as well.

White-water rafting and wildlife tours
in the Pentland Firth. This exciting adventure is from a state-of-the-art 11 metre RIB operating out of John O' Groats. The white water part of this is wonderful.

In Thurso nearby there is a Golf Driving Range, swimming pool, fitness centre and regional rugby club. There are also squash and tennis courts and a 10 pin bowling alley. Thurso also sports a cinema, libraries, art galleries, a theatre and a selection of local shops.
